How to Use Avast Anti-Theft Feature – What to do if Your Phone Gets Lost/Stolen?

If your Android mobile or tablet has been lost or stolen and you’ve had Avast Free Mobile Security with Anti-Theft installed, there are plenty things you can do to get it back. You can remotely control the device using the Avast Web Portal (Avast Account) or SMS commands from another device.

Controlling the Lost/Stolen Phone from the Avast Web Portal

  1. Login to your Avast Account at https://id.avast.com
  2. Select the lost phone from the list of your devices
  3. Select ‘Mark as Lost‘ from the command panel and confirm by ‘SEND‘ to start monitoring the location of your phone. Depending on your setup the lost state will initiate following actions: tracking, lock, siren, disable USB
  4. When you see the map with your phone you can try to find it on your own or contacting police

If you are not able to get your device back, make sure you will delete all your personal information like messages, pictures, contacts, passwords, videos etc. using the wipe command:

  1. Select ‘WIPE‘ from the ‘SEND COMMAND‘ menu and confirm by clicking ‘SEND
  2. Your device will be remotely deleted and restored back to its original factory settings (same as when you brought it home from the store)

If you are using the Avast Mobile Security Premium, you can also take a picture of a thief:

  1. Select ‘TAKE PICTURE‘ from the ‘SEND COMMAND‘ menu
  2. Check the advanced options ‘Take picture using the front camera instead of the back camera‘ and ‘Take picture when the screen is turned on the next and a face is detected within 1 minute after that‘ to increase your chances of taking picture of the actual thief and not just the area. Confirm by clicking ‘SEND
  3. You can check the stored pictures in the ‘Info‘ » ‘Commands‘ tab of your Avast Account. If you manage to get the picture of the person who is in possession of your phone, you can also provide it to police

You can restore your forgotten Avast PIN using one of the following options:

  • Retrieve Avast PIN via Avast Free Mobile Security App
    • Open Avast on your Android device and go to ‘Anti-Theft‘ » ‘Anti-Theft‘ » ‘Forgot your PIN?
    • You will receive a temporary PIN to your phone number. You need to enter it in the Anti-Theft feature within the 30 minutes
    • Now you can change the Avast PIN to a new one by going to ‘Anti-Theft‘ » ‘Anti-Theft‘ » ‘Avast PIN‘ » ‘Change Avast PIN
    • Enter a new PIN and confirm. Now you can use this new Avast PIN to communicate with Avast Anti-Theft
  • Retrieve Avast PIN via Avast Account (Web)
    • Login to your Avast Account at https://id.avast.com
    • Select your phone in the list of devices
    • Go to ‘Settings…‘ » ‘Anti-Theft
    • Enter a new PIN and confirm by clicking ‘SAVE‘. Now you can use this new Avast PIN to communicate with Avast Anti-Theft

    Thanks for sharing. But for anti-theft, I use LEO Privacy. You can used your reserved number to track and find it. What’s more, you can block and delete your private files to protect you privacy.
