Typically Avast is pushing the online installer (avast_free_antivirus_setup_online.exe) which is really small (about 5 MB) but requires an Internet connection to complete the installation as the biggest part is downloaded during the installation process. Sometimes you need to get Avast on a computer without the Internet connection and that’s why you need to download the offline installer (avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe) in full size which takes almost 300 MB.

Avast offers standalone installers for all their product from antivirus family (Free Antivirus, Pro Antivirus, Internet Security, Premier) to Cleanup or SecureLine.

Avast Free Antivirus 2018 – Offline vs. Online InstallerAvast Free Antivirus 2018 – Offline vs. Online Installer

Offline installer contains the exact version of Avast as an online installer but you can transfer it to a USB disk and install basically anywhere. Even though the computer doesn’t have an Internet access it could get infected (for example when you transferring data from USB sticks, CDs or DVDs) and that’s why you need Avast Antivirus protection. All Avast offline products are fully compatible with Windows 10, 8, 8.1, 7, Vista and XP (32-bit or 64-bit).

My name is Paul and I love Avast since the Home Edition v4.8 (2008). I am recommending it to all my friends, but I realized they don't know how to use it. So I started this site in order to help others getting maximum from this awesome antivirus. Feel free to contact me via Facebook, comments below or this form.

Have had Avast Safezone Browser for about the last 6 months. Quite liked it up until today when it simply uninstalled itself (along with the 40+ shortcuts I had saved) Tried reinstalling The antivirus (I have paid for a licence) with mixed success. I was able to retrieve the passwords module (this had also disappeared) but still unable to recover the Safezone Browser. It’s like it never existed…

Howdy. Spent some time yesterday attempting to install the Avast free version both online and offline for my XP box and laptop. While the offline installer showed a dialog box on which I clicked the Run btn, neither offline nor online then displayed ANY further progress bar/verbiage. Nor did the task manager show it running either.

So I’m thinking the 2017 online/offline installer no workee w/XP.

That said I’ve downloaded the XP version to try tonight…

    Thanks

      Hi Ray,

Do you have Windows XP SP3? According to Avast system requirements it should work on XP. No matter what installer (online or offline) you are using.
