Deal Closed – Avast Acquires AVG
In July Avast publicly announced plans to acquire AVG. And the deal is officially closed…
It’s still just a few days since Avast has released a brand new Avast Antivirus 2016 and it has been already tested by independent parties. We have the summary of the results and conclusions for you.
PCMag is praising Avast for its results in their own anti-malware and anti-phishing tests. It successfully blocked all the malware samples with the 100% detection rate.
Neil Rubenking, a respected security expert, is also highlighting Avast extra features like Router Scan (Avast Home Network Security) and a brand new integrated Password Manager (Avast Passwords).
The only area where Avast was lacking behind the competition was the speed of the on-demand scan.
Overall Avast Free Antivirus 2016 has received an excellent rating with 4.5 stars and valuable Editor’s Choice mark. There are only two other products with the same rating – AVG AntiVirus FREE 2016 (check our detailed comparison of Avast vs. AVG) and Panda Free Antivirus 2016.
Avast Free Antivirus 2016 – Brand New User Interface and Lots of New Features
Download.com focused mostly on the look, feel and the new features of Avast 2016. They didn’t perform any advanced test.
They rate the new user interface very positively, mentioning the animated icons. Of course they highlight the new password manager as ‘pretty respectable‘. Another positive part of Avast according to them, is the wide availability of settings. But that’s really nothing new in 2016, the settings stayed almost the same compared to Avast 2015.
Probably the biggest disadvantage of Avast 2016 are the sales pitches trying to up-sell users to premium versions of Avast.
Overall Avast Free Antivirus has received an excellent rating (same as from PCMag.com) with 4 stars. The average rating from users is 4.5 stars.
AV-Comparatives is a respected independent testing lab from Austria performing various tests of the security solutions on a regular basis. Avast Free Antivirus 2016 was a part of the October’s performance test.
Avast 2016 results are really impressive as even though the new version has a lot of new features, it is still extremely light on the system resources.
Avast Free Antivirus 2016 ended up on the second position and receiving the highest ADVANCED+ award. Winner of the test is Avira Antivirus Pro (retailed at $34.99). Third position belongs to Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 (retailed at $59.95).
