If you are still running Avast version 4.8 (Home Edition) or even older, you need to update it. As of today Avast is no longer supporting the old versions which means you no longer receive any support, but more importantly you won’t receive any virus update definitions. That makes your system vulnerable to new versions of malware and viruses, and essentially unprotected.
Even if your computer is not connect to the Internet, we really do not recommend to use Avast v4.8 as you can still get a virus through external media like USB drive.
