If you are still running Avast version 4.8 (Home Edition) or even older, you need to update it. As of today Avast is no longer supporting the old versions which means you no longer receive any support, but more importantly you won’t receive any virus update definitions. That makes your system vulnerable to new versions of malware and viruses, and essentially unprotected.

Even if your computer is not connect to the Internet, we really do not recommend to use Avast v4.8 as you can still get a virus through external media like USB drive.

Avast version 4.8 has been released in March 2008 and Avast kept supporting it for 8 years. Although that’s a very long time in the digital age, there are still some users who are using it. It has a very different and unique user interface, very similar to WinAmp (popular MP3 player at that time).

How to Update Avast Home Edition v4.8

Unfortunately you can’t use the typical update flow via the program interface. To update to the latest version, you need to first uninstall the old one. To do so please follow the steps below

  1. Uninstall your current (old) Avast version via the Windows Control Panel » Uninstall and restart your computer. Alternatively you can use the Avast Uninstall Utility
  2. Download the latest Avast version from our download page
  3. Install the new Avast version (see how) and enjoy the latest features

My name is Paul and I love Avast since the Home Edition v4.8 (2008). I am recommending it to all my friends, but I realized they don't know how to use it. So I started this site in order to help others getting maximum from this awesome antivirus. Feel free to contact me via Facebook, comments below or this form.
