Unfortunately this is no joke! avast! has informed yesterday (26th of May, 2014) on a social media and blog that their official forum has been hacked during the weekend. It’s currently offline and displays only a following message

Following data were stolen from the registered forum users

  • Nicknames
  • User names
  • E-mail adresses
  • Password (one-way encrypted)

So if you have been registered on the avast! forum (https://forum.avast.com/), we strongly recommend to change the password for all services where you have the same password as on the avast! forum.

According to the blog comments the forum has been running on a 3rd party software SMF 2.0.6.

Please note that this data leak won’t affect your other data you have with avast!. Also if you are registered to avast! Account you are safe – only the avast! Forum has been hacked, nothing else.

Remember in these days this can happen to anyone. The only way how to stay safe even if your account data are exposed, is to use unique password for each online service you are using.

My name is Paul and I love Avast since the Home Edition v4.8 (2008). I am recommending it to all my friends, but I realized they don't know how to use it. So I started this site in order to help others getting maximum from this awesome antivirus. Feel free to contact me via Facebook, comments below or this form.
