Did you know you can use Avast also for the parental control? All Avast antivirus products, including the Free Antivirus, have a cool feature called Site Blocking. Using this tool you can create a list of keywords, sites, domains or URLs, which will be automatically blocked by Avast.

For example you can add keyword “facebook” and all URLs containing this keyword will be blocked (i.e. www.facebook.com or en.wikipedia.org/?title=Facebook). Ultimately you can create a list of inappropriate keywords and block all adult sites.

Unfortunately the Site Blocking feature only scans the keywords in the URL, not on the actual page. So if the ‘inappropriate’ content is hosted on a ‘safe’ URL, it will get through the Avast Site Block.

Using the Site Block feature in Avast is really easy. Simply open your Avast and go to Settings » Active Protection » Web Shield » Customize » Site Blocking. Once you are there make sure you check the option ‘Enable site blocking‘ and you can start adding keywords/sites to the list.

My name is Paul and I love Avast since the Home Edition v4.8 (2008). I am recommending it to all my friends, but I realized they don't know how to use it. So I started this site in order to help others getting maximum from this awesome antivirus. Feel free to contact me via Facebook, comments below or this form.

Need a parental control system that is secret, in the sense that it does not display any message like “this site is blocked”, etc. The user should not become aware that a parental control system has been installed. Do you have this feature?
