UPDATE August 14, 2015: Looks like the issue has been solved and both Avast apps Free Mobile Security and Cleanup are now back in Google Play Store.

UPDATE August 11, 2015: Official statement from the company COO was posted on the Avast Forum. Two Avast apps has been really suspended/banned from the Play Store directly by Google. The reason is that the way Avast is distributing those apps doesn’t comply with the Google policies.

Avast didn’t provide more information about the details but confirmed the virus definitions are still being delivered to all current users. So there is no risk in using the apps if you have them on your device already. Both apps should return to Google Play and will be available for download in a couple of days.

In the meantime Avast Forum readers provided some safe alternative links for a free download of Avast Free Mobile Security

Numerous people on Avast Forum and Avast Facebook reported that the Android mobile apps Avast Free Mobile Security and Avast Cleanup are no longer available to download on Google Play Store. Unfortunately it seems to be true.

When you search for Avast on Google Play, there are still various Avast apps like Anti-Theft or Battery Saver available but the free antivirus app is missing. When you go directly to the official Avast Free Mobile Security product page and click on Download, the desired URL https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avast.android.mobilesecurity doesn’t exists.

Apparently current users who have Avast mobile antivirus already on their devices can still use the app without any hassle.

So far there is no official response from any side and it looks like a mystery. We don’t know yet if the Avast app has been banned by Google, removed on purpose by Avast or it’s just a terrible technical issue. We will definitely keep you posted.

This is currently how it looks when you search for “avast” on Google Play Store:

My name is Paul and I love Avast since the Home Edition v4.8 (2008). I am recommending it to all my friends, but I realized they don't know how to use it. So I started this site in order to help others getting maximum from this awesome antivirus. Feel free to contact me via Facebook, comments below or this form.

I had to uninstall so I could try to fix an error message about the software not responding. Came up every five min for about an hour. Imagine my surprise when I could no longer locate the app anywhere so I could reinstall. Have searched everywhere. Thank you for the info.

Hopefully Avast will quickly find its way back to the Play Store as we have it as a required app in our corporation and the MobileIron MDM platform.

Avast may be in hot water for co-opting Google play services while running on devices. I have been checking regularly my running apps every morning when I get up. Avast would have more than the usual two processes running, they would have four under their control, and two of those were Google play services, and I only have three of those running at any one time. And I’m not talking about the vending service.

Funny thing happened today also, Google services has gone thru the roof in battery use,and in three hours I lost 70% battery, all Google and Android system, and chrome, which was on for 30 min, infill I dosed off for a nap. When I woke up,that’s when I saw the hit to battery, but this morning,I saw I used three times the normal rate loss over night.
