This week US has charged Evgeniy Bogachev from being involved in the serious cyber-crime activity during which more than million of users were infected with trojans. According to UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) users have approximately two weeks to protect themselves against so-called GameOver Zeus and CryptoLocker attacks.

Here are the tips from the avast! blog on how to protect yourself

  • Make sure your Windows, avast! antivirus, and all applications are updated – check how to update avast! antivirus
  • Backup all your valuable data (pictures, music, documents, videos, etc.) – use avast! BackUp for that
  • Use strong passwords, have a different password for each online service and do not store your passwords in a plain (not-encrypted) format – use avast! EasyPass for that
  • Do not open suspicious attachments in the e-mails, even if they are from the people you know
  • Use avast! SafeZone when shopping and banking online – download avast! Pro Antivirus or higher
